Nigun Project

Privacy policy

Last updated September 23, 2026

Nigun Project is a free site where people share nigunim and nusach for davening. This page explains what we collect, why, and who handles it.

What we collect

  • Your email address, when you sign in with an email link or with Google. From Google we receive your email and basic profile. We don't get your Google password or contacts.
  • Your handle, which you choose. It shows next to what you add.
  • What you add: versions, links, uploaded audio, voice recordings, notes, and categories.
  • Your votes and flags. Votes are counted in totals. Flags, with any note you write, are seen only by admins.
  • Contact form messages: your name, email and message, sent to our inbox so we can reply.
  • Basic technical data our hosting providers log to run the site, such as IP address and browser type.

You can browse and listen without an account.

What's public

Your handle, and anything you add (versions, links, recordings, notes), are public. Anyone can see and play them. Your email address is never shown to other users.

How we use it

  • To sign you in and keep you signed in.
  • To show what you add, and your handle next to it.
  • To count votes and keep one vote per person per recording.
  • To review flags and remove content that breaks the rules.
  • To email you sign-in links. Admins also get an email when something is flagged.

We don't sell your information, show ads, or use it for marketing.

Cookies

We use three kinds of cookies.

  • Sign-in cookies keep you signed in.
  • A preference cookie remembers whether you picked light or dark mode.
  • Google Analytics cookies count visits and which pages are used, so we can see what's helpful. We don't send Google your name or email.

Who handles your data

  • Supabase stores accounts and content.
  • Vercel hosts the website.
  • Amazon Web Services stores uploaded audio and voice notes (S3) and sends our emails (SES).
  • Google measures site visits through Google Analytics, and handles sign-in if you choose "Continue with Google".
  • YouTube plays YouTube links. We use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. YouTube's own policy applies once a video plays.

Links to other sites, such as SoundCloud or Spotify, open under those sites' policies.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your account and content until you delete them or ask us to. You can delete your own versions and recordings from the ⋯ menu. To delete your account and everything tied to it, email contact@nigunproject.org from the address you sign in with. We'll do it within 30 days.

You can also ask for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct it, at the same address.

Children

The site is not meant for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. Big changes will also be noted on the site.
